Behind the Mic is a series of short interviews to celebrate the work of the actors who provided the voices for Mortuus Est: Legacy.

See what our marvelous Morena, Monica Vigil, had to say!

What made you want to pursue acting?

I’ve always loved storytelling and getting attention!

Why did you branch out into voice acting? Was this always your preference, or is it an extra skill in your wheelhouse?

I started with a role in the Fina Mendoza Mysteries podcast a few years ago, which was so scary because I’d never done voice acting before. I realized that as much as it terrified me, I liked the challenge of conveying what needed to be conveyed with only my voice.

What was it about the Mortuus Est story that drew you to audition?

I’ve always wanted to play a badass and who is a badder ass than Morena? I loved the suspense and adventure of the Mortuus Est story. As a kid, I pretended to be on adventures all the time and this really spoke to that side of me.

How do you relate to your character when getting into their headspace?

Morena has gone through such dark and intense moments in her life, but she found her way back. I think that’s something so many people can relate to, including myself. When getting into her headspace, it’s important for me to tap into the darkness and pain, but equally as important to tap into strength and resilience.

What was your favorite scene or moment from season one?

My favorite moment from season one was this small moment when Morena has returned to Mortuus Est after time off and as she’s exiting, she short of chuckles and says “It’s been a long time.” That moment is my favorite. It’s such a small, but important moment where Morena has returned and she’s come back more self-assured and a little lighter, if just for a moment.
