Behind the Mic is a series of short interviews to celebrate the work of the actors who provided the voices for Mortuus Est series.

Today we have Marcel Britt, who plays Lawrence Spencer in both Legacy and Origins.

How long have you been acting for

Not long, I’ve always liked to make funny voices and make people laugh but using my own actual voice and attempting to act professionally hasn’t been long. Mortuus Est is my first real acting gig.

What made you begin acting?

Well I’ve always loved movies, animation and video games. Many people have told me over the course of my life I have a nice voice and that I should get into voice acting or be a radio host which I had heard many times throughout my life but never really considered it an actual reality until I moved to LA.

Who do you play in Mortuus Est: Origins? Do you relate to your character? If yes, how so? If not, how did you get into character?

I play Lawrence Spencer and whilst I don’t necessarily feel I completely relate to Lawrence I can put myself in his mindset of wanting to protect his family and those he cares about.

Have you always done voice acting or do you perform in other mediums as well?

I do try to do impersonations a lot. I do a really good Christopher Lee I think (laughs) but aside from that I really love to play guitar.

In the forms of acting you have done, what challenges do you think present themselves in each form?

TBH the biggest challenge is self doubt in my opinion I am my biggest critic and often hate everything I do after the fact, thinking that it’s not good enough and that it could way better but realizing this version of myself I have in my head is always constantly moving like a target one can never hit.

How do you overcome challenges when performing?

Getting out of my head not thinking about the situation in third person or looking at or analyzing myself but being in the moment, living, breathing, being the character I’m playing or being what I am doing meaning just flowing no thought.

Is there an actor, director, teacher, or friend you draw inspiration from? If so, please tell me about them and why they inspire you.

I had a roommate I’ll just call them T for now, Japanese guy who is an actor. This man’s dedication to his craft was very inspiring to me the lengths he would go to get into character his passion for acting his discipline the way he carries himself and views life a very inspiring individual who has a way to bring something out of you he always states how he believes in me and that I’m destined for greatness and not just him friends and family motivate me their belief in me helps me excel so I am grateful for that.

What is one thing you know now, you wish you knew when you began your acting career?

Really just focusing on the character again getting out of my own head putting everything I got into the role but I believe that everything happens for a reason and sometimes we have to learn things a certain way and go down a certain path to start the motion of other things so while knowing things sooner in life would seemingly help us our journey is laid out for us alone.

Hear Marcel in action as Lawrence Spencer in Legacy and now in Origins!
